The power plant generates solar and nuclear energy to power the colony. It serves as your mission stamina.
The more an Architect upgrades their power plant, the more energy it can generate, and the more missions Explorers can perform on their plot. With a revenue-share agreement (coming soon), both Architects and Explorers share in the additional revenue and playability granted through upgrades.
